A Bowl of Lemons - The Zest Collection
There is a print on my second monitor, but that is really just the starting point. Zest began as one citrus inspired idea and grew into a whole collection of prints and patterns built around the same color story. I kept returning to that bright mix of citron yellow and soft green because it felt fresh, clean, and easy to build into something bigger.
How the collection started
I do not usually begin with a finished sketch or a polished plan. I open the software and start testing. I move colors around, adjust shapes, play with repeat patterns, and keep refining until something feels right. Most of the time, the process is less about one perfect moment and more about a lot of small decisions that slowly come together.
With Zest, that meant exploring the citrus theme in different ways until the collection started to take shape. Some pieces became more graphic, some more detailed, but they all came from the same visual idea.
Why the details matter
What makes a collection work is consistency. The colors need to feel connected. The patterns need to relate to one another without becoming too repetitive. Each design has to stand on its own, but it also has to feel like part of a larger body of work.
That is one of the things I love about digital art. It lets me keep refining those relationships until the whole collection feels balanced. I can keep adjusting scale, saturation, and composition until the pieces support each other.
How it shows up now
Zest carries the tagline Art with a twist, and that idea fits the collection well. It shows up across prints, patterns, glassware, blankets, apparel, and more. The goal was to make something bright, versatile, and easy to live with, whether it is on a wall, a towel, or part of an everyday object.
Final Thoughts
I think people sometimes imagine art as one finished image, but my process usually grows outward from a single idea. Zest is a good example of that. It started with citrus, then became a collection shaped by color, repetition, and a lot of trial and error.
